Mental Health Service Appointments

Emergency Help

If you think your situation is an emergency, you may wish to contact your GP or NHS Direct 24 hour helpline on 0845 46 47.

If you want to speak to someone outside regular times see Help Out of Hours.

What will happen in the first Mental Health Service appointment?

Your first appointment will be for 50 minutes. You may be asked to complete a brief questionnaire about your mental health and we will explain our procedures and our confidentiality code.

The Mental Health Adviser will work with you to explore possible solutions to the difficulties you are experiencing. This may include offering advice and information about the issues you face, and recommending the most appropriate ongoing support for you, which may include: follow-up meetings with a Mental Health Adviser; Mental Health Mentoring (if in receipt of DSAs); support and/or treatment from your GP/Doctor; counselling or workshop attendance through the University Counselling Service or access to Statutory Mental Health Services.
