Mindfulness course now running!

We are really pleased that after the success of the 'taster’ sessions run on the Treforest campus before Christmas, Valley Steps have begun a full 6-week Mindfulness course. This will be followed by a 6-week Stress Control course in March. Both will be at The Hub, Treforest Campus (no. 26 on the Treforest Campus map).

The results of a recent research project by Heward, E., & Pychyl, T.A. (June 4, 2011) hi-lights links between Emotional Intelligence and Procrastination. Procrastination can lead to putting off tasks which feel uncomfortable. Sometimes we substitute the priority task with preferred activities which avoid difficult emotions. This is why emotional intelligence is important. If we can recognize, soothe and manage difficult emotions within ourselves we will be less likely to become derailed enabling us to stay on track with tasks.

People with bipolar disorder are being encouraged by Stephen Fry to take part in a research study at Cardiff University. The actor is quoted in a BBC News item on the bipolar gene study as saying “If you took time to participate in this study, you’ve no idea how much good you will be doing. It would be a wonderful, a kind, a graceful and a noble thing to do”
