Placement Information for Associate Counsellors at USW
Thank you for expressing an interest in becoming one of our Associate Counsellors.
About our placements
We offer a high quality counselling service across several campuses at Wales’s largest university. Our current vacancy is at Pontypridd campus.
In addition to one-to-one and online counselling we offer drop in appointments and workshops to all USW students to enhance their personal and social awareness and resilience and to enable them to engage effectively in university life.
Working in a university placement provides counselling experience with people from a diverse range of ages, cultures and social backgrounds. Some of the more common concerns that students bring to counselling include depression and anxiety, self-harm, loss/bereavement, complex eating difficulties and experiences of abuse.
Students sometimes have to manage complex personal, physical and emotional difficulties alongside other demands including course work assignments, exams and academic deadlines, placement hours required by some vocational courses and the social challenges experienced within shared accommodation. Increasingly students experience financial pressures and costs that arise when in higher education.
A university counselling service can be a valuable resource for students and enable them to continue with their studies and fulfil their potential.
Associate Counsellors will have completed a BACP Accredited training and maybe working towards accreditation or wanting to gain experience in a higher education setting.
All applicants for Associate placements must hold current membership of the (BACP). DBS clearance for is also required and we will explain our clearance procedure for successfully appointed placement counsellors.
